Birth Doula Support

MY BIRTH PHILOSOPHY

I believe in your innate ability to birth your baby—your body was made for this! Birth is a sacred and a fiercely primitive experience. It is hard physical and mental work. Your body, mind and soul come together harmoniously as you allow yourself to lose control into each surge. Birth is not a cookie cutter process. I believe you should feel fully respected in your individual and unique way of birthing. Having a supportive team and mutual trust is essential.

As your doula, I meet you where you are, hold space and walk beside you as you navigate your birthing year. I offer resources and support your right and ability to make informed decisions that are right for you and your baby.

What does a doula do?

As your doula I draw on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort.

As your doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver or hospital. While staff on your medical team will need to tend to other patients, a doula stays by your side providing continuous, one-on-one support no matter what decisions are made or how you give birth.

What does a doula NOT do?

As your doula, I do not:

• Perform clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, and others. I am there to provide only physical comfort and emotional support.

• Make decisions for you. I will help you get the information necessary to make an informed decision. I will also remind you if there is a departure from your birth plan.

• Speak to the staff on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you and suggest options, but you or your partner will communicate directly with the clinical staff.
